Introduction

STEM RISE is a grassroots non-profit organization created exclusively for scientific and educational purposes. Operating as an outreach program, we work to improve the educational performance of K-12 students in STEM –related subjects and increase student interest in all STEM areas. As an afterschool organization, we spark imaginative learning when school is out! Children engage in exciting hands-on activities, watch spectacular science demonstrations, participate in inquiry-based discussions and take home things that they have made themselves like model rockets, periscopes, soap, etc. These fun and educational activities include single day, multiple day or semester-long projects that encompass a variety of topics to suit every age group.STEM RISE outreach programs are:

  • Meet national, state and provincial science curriculum standards
  • Are led by trained, qualified and dynamic instructors

For the 2014 year, we are working at 9 schools:
  • Bowling Green Elementary School
  • Chavez Intermediate School
  • Einstein Middle School
  • Elder Creek Elementary School
  • John D. Sloat Elementary School
  • Morey Avenue Early Development School
  • Natomas Middle School
  • Rosa Parks Middle School
  • Sierra Enterprise Elementary School

We're also planning to launch a computer science program at Rosa Parks Middle School and Einstein Middle School for the 2014-2015 year!

Our MissionSTEM RISE promotes STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) comprehension, interest and achievement. This includes:
  • 1. Supporting scientific literacy in K-12 students through outreach programs;
  • 2. Developing a K-12 curriculum that will increase student understanding and interest in STEM subjects;
  • 3. Establishing platforms for innovative STEM teaching through proven models;
  • 4. Developing standardized methods to quantitatively measure students' performance outcomes and interests.
